The new Health Futures Center is adjacent to the Mayo Clinic Phoenix and supports the interdepartmental research and collaborative programs of Arizona State University and Mayo Clinic on a new campus, establishing a nexus of research, teaching, and meeting space to improve health outcomes in Arizona. CO masterplanned the new 24 acre campus and programmed and designed the new facility, which combines programs of ASU’s College of Health Solutions, College of Nursing & Health Innovation, and the Fulton Schools of Engineering, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, with programs of Mayo Clinic.
HFC’s facade embraces its almost surreal desert climate, with volumetric, faceted walls that are activated by changing shadow play throughout the day. The forward-thinking design incorporates streamlined, minimal detailing that showcases the building’s climatic response to its surrounding environment, capturing north light through the east and west facades, and using passive and cost-effective strategies to minimize solar heat gain and maximize occupant comfort. CO Architects: Programming & Design Architect; DFDG Architecture: Architect of Record.
