This transformative new tower for Providence Mission Hospital Mission Viejo will advance patient care through state-of-the-art surgical, imaging and cardiac capabilities, supported by improved access, intuitive patient flow and a full complement of clinical support spaces. All private inpatient rooms, welcoming public areas, and generous green spaces will create an environment that supports healing, comfort and the well-being of patients, visitors and staff.
The project will replace imaging and diagnostic cardiology capabilities and provide new state-of-the-art facilities for surgery, GI and cardiac catheterization. New inpatient units with all private single-patient rooms will also support comfort and healing. At its center, the campus will feature a new landscaped space, which will connect the existing and new inpatient buildings, forming a green heart for the hospital. The tower will also unlock the full potential of the campus by clearly separating the service dock, ambulance bay, public emergency department entrance and main hospital entrance. This thoughtful organization will improve operations while creating a more welcoming and legible experience for everyone arriving at the campus.
By responding to the distinct needs of patients, families, caregivers, emergency services and hospital operations, the design will create clarity, ease and a renewed sense of harmony throughout the campus. Improved access for patients and visitors is only one way this campus improves the patient experience. Each floor corresponds with a nature-inspired color story, anchoring spaces to the surrounding environment and simplifying wayfinding. Whether visiting, receiving care, or coming to work, all users will experience a place that feels calm, connected and easy to navigate.
The building will also strengthen the hospital’s connection to the community and its legacy through art rooted in the history of the land and the enduring contributions of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. At its heart, the design reflects the principles of Laudato Si' and the belief that the health of people and the health of the planet are inseparable. Through its architecture, landscape, art and operations, the campus will embody Providence’s values and establish an inspiring vision for its future. It will be a place of advanced care, human connection, environmental stewardship and hope.
