The Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation and Education (MITIE) is a national center for medical education and research in minimally invasive surgical techniques, and also serves as a resident training center for the Cornell School of Medicine. It provides a resource for practicing physicians and allied health professionals worldwide to acquire new skills and retool existing skills.
The institute is composed of adjacent multifunctional sites with technologies that include virtual environments, simulators, technical trainers, robotics, image-guidance devices, and conferencing and debriefing capabilities. It contains nine large conference rooms and a 22-seat stepped-floor immersion videoconference room. A special feature is the complete interconnectivity between conference rooms and surgical training areas so information sharing can be optimized for remote teaching purposes.
