Located in the heart of Fort Worth’s Near Southside District, the new Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine offers a curriculum that focuses on the future of medicine, medical knowledge, communication skills, empathy, compassion and lifelong learning. The building's design reimagines class size, technology, culture and pedagogy to train students for vast advances in medicine and teach them how to be compassionate physicians. The four-story, 95,000-sf building is the initial phase for the new location and serves as the academic hub for 240 medical students as well as faculty and staff. CO Architects served as the Design Architect and Hoefer Welker was the Executive Architect.
A two-story Forum serves as the building's community space. Multi-functional in nature, the Forum serves many purposes and features social space, a café, an event hall, and a monumental switchback stair that connects to the upper floors. The Forum can be enlarged and connected to the adjacent learning studio through operable partitions for more capacity. Overlooking the Forum with exterior views of campus green, the second-floor balcony leads students and faculty to the library and study areas.
To support TCU's innovative concept of developing "Empathetic Scholars," the new School of Medicine includes collaborative learning studios, a robust simulation and clinical skills center, anatomy lab, augmented visualization room, community life amenities, and contemporary workplace offerings. Diverse study and social spaces encourage students to embrace and study the major drivers in the future of medicine, including artificial intelligence, genomics, and technology monitoring patient health and disease.
Dubbed the “superfloor,” Level 3 uniquely converges anatomical exploration, procedural skills training, and simulated experiences, enabling students to both study the human body and master empathetic approaches to care. In addition, the "superfloor" offers a student lounge, fitness space, wellness room, and an interfaith reflection area.
